Kolkata Metro Booster: From August 11, Green & Purple Lines Add More Trains & Start Earlier
Kolkata Metro expands train services beginning August 11: Green Line 1 & 2 start earlier, Purple Line runs longer, with more trains added daily. Commuters get better timings across key routes.

Starting Monday, August 11, Kolkata Metro is ramping up services on both its Green and Purple lines to better handle commuter traffic. Here’s what’s changing:
Green Line 1 (Sealdah ↔ Salt Lake Sector V)
- Daily trains increase from 106 to 108 (54 UP, 54 DOWN)
- First departure moves earlier to 6:35 AM (from Sealdah), and 6:40 AM (from Salt Lake)
- Last departure remains unchanged at 10 PM
- No Sunday services on this line
Green Line 2 (Howrah Maidan ↔ Esplanade)
- Services boosted from 130 to 134 trains daily (67 UP, 67 DOWN)
- Starts earlier at 6:30 AM instead of 7 AM
- Last train remains at 9:53 PM
- Sunday operations continue as normal
Purple Line (Joka ↔ Majerhat)
- Daily trains increased from 72 to 80 (40 UP, 40 DOWN)
- New first departure: 6:50 AM from Joka; 7:14 AM from Majerhat
- Latest service now runs until 9:14 PM, a shift from previous 8:32 PM
- Services remain Monday to Friday only—no Saturday or Sunday runs
